How to Join a Team
Do you want to join a FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team? See below for the ways you can be part of FIRST robotics. Note that this is a volunteer-run organization, so if you want your child to be a part of a team, you should be prepared to offer your support in some fashion.
- Check your school: the best place to start is in your own backyard. Sometimes your school already has a team set up. The science teacher is usually a good person to begin with.
- Check the SoCal FTC website (https://socalftc.org/leagues/#page-content): We play in League format where teams are grouped by location. There are several leagues across Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, and the San Fernando Valley. Find the League nearest to you on our website and contact the Host (emails are listed). The League Host can put an email out to the teams in their League to see if any team is taking on new members.
- Start your own team: Sometimes starting your own team (either school-based or community-based) is the easiest. It only takes 2 students to make a team. FIRST headquarters has great resources to help you be successful. Check the FIRST website for how to start a team(https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/ftc/start-a-team).
